SSI EMEA User Conference 2019 Recap
I was honored to contribute to the SSI 2019 EMEA Conference in Lisbon last month. Amazing feedback from the SSI & ShipConstructor community. I’m impressed by all the work and as a software vendor, we’re happy to collaborate more and more with SSI. Denis Morais, co-CEO at SSI, is a true visionary on that front and his recap of the event perfectly summarizes some of the most strategic points for the ship building industry regarding the digital twin.
Hyper-realistic 3D models in SmartShape (part 1: data capture)
The whole idea of a Digital Twin implies having an actual 3D/CAD model in the first place. How does the Digital Twin apply to existing assets with no 3D/CAD model, or even no blueprint? The solution is to capture 3D data - using different technologies such as 3D scan and photogrammetry. In the following video, you will discover how Semeru, a Fayat group company, captured an hyper-realistic 3D model of the sewers of Paris, France, to be used in SmartShape to perform virtual tours and prepare on-site interventions.
Augmented Reality Maintenance With SmartShape
SmartShape addresses the whole lifecycle of engineering projects, including maintenance. Augmented reality is a nice technology. But reality augmented by what? In this case, the SmartShape digital twin is connected in real time to the maintenance database. Each intervention of the operator is guided, collaborative and tracked in real time. In the following video, discover how a SmartShape powered digital twin can be overlayed on the real object using augmented reality to make maintenance operations faster, safer and error free.
Interview of the CEO - Connecting Existing Databases to the Digital Twin
Files and documents are not the right way to implement a digital twin. Especially if such digital twin must reflect in real-time the real life asset. In this video interview, we talk about and demo how SmartShape makes it easy to successfully connect existing external/third party databases to the digital twin.
International Paris Air Show 2019
We’re very happy and proud to announce we are partnering up with Segula Technologies (Hall 2B, booth E125) to showcase SmartShape during the International Paris Air Show 2019, at le Bourget, Paris, France! We will demonstrate how a SmartShape digital twin can be connected to maintenance applications and databases. Maintenance manuals, documents and operations still rely heavily on paper. The digital twin and SmartShape bring safer and faster maintenance operations for the aerospace industry.
Implementation of the Basis Universal Texture Format in Smartshape
With the recent open source release of the Basis Universal GPU Texture Codec by Binomial, a new step toward the standardization of GPU texture formats was made. SmartShape supports many image formats along with the most common 3D formats. Once uploaded into SmartShape, the images are transcoded to every target GPU format needed to meet the mobile and Web platforms requirements. Storing GPU friendly texture formats presents multiple benefits when these are served to the end user’s device and rendered on it such as:
If it is not a service, it is not a Digital Twin (part 1)
What makes a Digital Twin? Lots of things are being said and written about Digital Twins. So in this first article of a series, I want to paint our vision of the Digital Twin. The vision behind SmartShape. With an emphasis on the “digital” side of things. This word is used and abused in many ways. Tot alk about the Digital Twin, we must not forget - and maybe even start with - its physical counterpart.
Interview of the CEO - What Is Smartshape?
You might wonder “what is SmartShape?”. And I’m glad you asked. A lot of people ask me how I - as the CEO of the company - would define SmartShape. Here is a video interview to answer to the most common questions about SmartShape as a technology but also as a product.
Laval Virtual 2019
Throughout its 20 years of existence, Laval Virtual has become the indispensable catalyst and facilitator for organizations from the VR/AR and Immersive techniques field. We’re very happy and proud to announce we are partnering up with Lenovo (Hall E, booth E50) to showcase SmartShape during Laval Virtual 2019! We will demo a SmartShape-powered collaborative Augmented Reality workflow running on the brand new Motorola G7 (Motorola is the mobile division of Lenovo).
